It’s Only Castles Burning

July 24, 2008

Today I found out that the three real friends I have at school are following their hearts instead of returning to the journalism program for another year. It’s a bittersweet turn of events for me because the fall schedule is looking about as fun as a brick to the head and things are going to be a lot harder to bear without them.

On the brighter side, I’m proud to call them my friends, and I’m thrilled that they have chosen to do what they actually want instead of what is expected of them. I would like to think that is one of the reasons they became my friends in the first place, and I’m sure they wouldn’t expect any less of me.

Somehow it’s almost August and the summer has taken its toll. I feel an unfortunate but inevitable drifting apart with two of them, maybe because I expected to see them in September, maybe because we’re leading separate lives. Luckily I think the third will be around for awhile. She’s another one of the few special people in my life who, no matter how far away, will always cross my path on a delightfully regular basis.

In the end I just want to wish these three talented individuals the best of luck regardless of how close we stay. I guess I’ll just get a lot more reading done on the bus this year.

Alive On Arrival

Today I photoshopped a foreign death certificate. Just when I thought I was out…

Window Seat

July 21, 2008

I’m finally home, but only for a few days. Darina jets to Bali with Novo Don Boss on Wednesday. I drag myself back to Whistler on Thursday. Eventually this will all be over and things will continue to be better than ever. I just want to live in my own house for more than a few days. Sleep in my own bed. Eat food I cooked. See my friends. Return emails to people who deserve replies. Read. Write. Run. Build. Breathe.

We ate at Ethiopia tonight and it killed my writing motivation despite a backlog of material. Some artsy photos will have to do.

Screwface Chris

July 18, 2008

A couple of months ago I shot some photos of the handsome Christopher Honeywell for my magazine. Despite being gracious participant, he was making things hard on me that particular day. Every time I hit the shutter, his face chose that exact moment to involuntarily blink or break into something absurd, botching the shot. I took some photos I’m really happy with, which I will post up once I figure out what I’m going to use, but for now here are some of the others.

Old Man

When I’m away from home I am cut off from 95% of my music, but it hasn’t mattered this week because all I listen to is this.
