February 26, 2008I discovered this stroke of brilliance last week and read the whole thing straight through.
Since I last checked the site it has gained about a million hits, so the internets are definitely buzzing.

Update: Be sure to scope the comments section. Who would have thought so many people would have such a hard time doing something as simple as laughing? It’s just satire. Sit back, laugh, and realize you just got owned. People these days…
Persepolis x Sneakerpimps x DND
February 23, 2008Last night I saw Persepolis with my girl and some friends. In case you haven’t heard, it’s an animated French movie about a girl growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. It’s nominated for Best Animated Film at the Academy Awards but will probably lose to a Pixar movie about a rat that wants to be a chef.
I know it’s animated, and I know it has subtitles, and I know I’m making your life very difficult, but you should take the time to check it out because it’s wonderful. I really enjoyed how the movie made the most of its medium. It celebrated the fact that it wasn’t chained down by reality and ran with the freedom of animation. Some great storytelling results.
After the movie our group scattered and mon amour and I met Melissa at Plush for Sneaker Pimps (Not the band, the traveling art/shoe/DJ show). She was with two of her female friends named Kyle and Kyla, and that led to an introduction I’m sure they’ve made too many times. Did I mention they’re roommates?
We had really high hopes for the show, but it kind of sucked. Biz Markie was there and he spun records for a while, which is alright but not great considering Toronto got Premier and Whoo Kid. I know Biz hasn’t rapped for about a decade, but the man is one of the best beat-boxes on the planet and I was hoping for a little more than nothing.
The shoes were cool, but because I’m not quite the sneaker freak that Darina is, they weren’t really anything more than nice shoes. Although I would rob you for a pair of the above.
The real problem with Sneaker Pimps was the atmosphere, and in my humble opinion it was the people. The only thing anyone did was look at what everyone else was wearing (mainly compared to themselves), and it was fucking annoying.
I’ve been thinking a little lately about the extent we define ourselves by what we buy, which is pretty interesting to ponder if you like that sort of thing. I suspect the problem last night may have been that most of the people at the show define themselves by what they buy to a much greater extent than most people do, and the result was dead boring.
Tomorrow after work Nolan and I are making the most of our dwindling reading break and heading to Crystal Mountain in Washington to do some skiing. On Sunday night we’re meeting D-Block in Seattle for a Sonics/Lakers game and it should be a good time. We’ll chat all about it when I get back. Meanwhile you have a movie to see and some pondering to do, so don’t call me.
Enter the fog, the light is your guide…
February 20, 2008We’ve had some crazy fog in West End of Vancouver over the last couple of days. Here’s a photo from Flickr that will basically sum it up for you.
I was skiing Seymour last night and all the water from the Pacific Ocean to Deep Cove and beyond was covered in the thickest fog, but anything on land was clear.
On the way to the hill we were rolling over the Lions Gate Bridge as the sun was setting and it just barely cleared the fog. Definitely one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. When Vancouver is sunny there is no place I would rather be.
